From
Africa originally, I
migrated to Australia in 2001. I obtained my initial experience whilst
training as an educator whilst training at the Zimbabwe National Air Force
Parachute School. Following this I obtained an agricultural diploma and,
in 1981, after two years as a farm manager I started my own agricultural
enterprise, growing crops for export, breeding cattle and operating a
safari business and wildlife conservancy.
An
introductory Holistic Management
course in 1995 inspired me to implement my new
understanding and knowledge, using grazing as a tool to improve the
environment with resultant increased stocking rates, significant pasture
improvement and regeneration of water seeps. In 2001 I completed my
Holistic Management
Certified Educator’s course. Since arriving in Australia I have
broadened this hands-on experience, working for a pastoral enterprise in
South West Queensland as a pasture and cattle manager and grazing
consultant and managing a grazing property in New south Wales. In 2004, in conjunction with Helen Lewis, Inside Outside Management
was formed as a vehicle to roll out Holistic Management training to
interested people.
I enjoy
sharing my passion for environmental improvement and grazing management.
In Zimbabwe I held field days for local tribal farmers and involved my
staff with new grazing practices. As a director of Inside Outside
Management I have worked with
diverse groups,
including Landcare and CMA groups, family businesses and sole operators
both in Queensland and New South Wales, delivering Holistic Management
practitioner training and grazing management courses. I
have much experience working in a team with people from different
cultures and backgrounds. This, together with my passion for Holistic
Management
allows me to create an atmosphere of trust within a group, enabling the
diverse participants to actively contribute towards positive outcomes.

With an interest in
the environment and varied experience in community development,
political advising and agri-politics, I embarked on Holistic Management
practitioner training in 1998. The training showed me how the
practice of Holistic Management resulted in people
being empowered and diverse groups finding common ground. I also
observed that actions
from decisions taken using the Holistic Management framework
simultaneously improved people's involvement, profit and the land. After completing my certified
Holistic Management
educator training in 2002, I assisted various family businesses to
manage holistically, thereby enabling them to find their shared values and
to make decisions together towards the long-term future
they require.
In partnership
with the South African Wine & Brandy Corporation and
South African CSIR Logistics, I have presented papers on holistic supply-chain
management internationally at the Dutch Chain & Network Science Conference and the
International Food & Agribusiness Management
Association Conference. Holistic Management is invaluable for
developing demand chains from producer to retailer. It enables all
businesses within the chain to understand the needs of the whole chain
to function effectively; as a result there is genuine sharing of costs
and profits throughout the entire chain. In today's business sector the
corporate governance responsibility is significant. Managing holistically enables
company directors to
use a
transparent decision - making process which allows
them to deliver the financial return, consider the human resources' needs and
consider the
impact of business on the environment. This
creates a balanced business.
