Brian's Blog

Autumn 2020

With the delayed start to the growing season for many parts of Australia, the window for ecological monitoring in which the seedlings have established and plants are easy to identify may be a narrow one and for many this is now. Monitoring your soil surface will give you, the land manager the earliest possible indication of the impact of not only the weather conditions i.e. drought but more importantly your management and if the environment is moving in the direction you have described in your Holistic Context. While measuring soil carbon, soil respiration and many of the other soil indicators the majority are lagging indicators i.e. measuring management after the fact, critical if you are being paid for sequestered carbon but generally too late to be of practical use for management. Good practical monitoring and taking subsequent control measures is the way towards success and creating healthy landscape function.Holistic Ecological Monitoring is a well proven quick and effective way to get the information that you require.
